Eco-Schools, in partnership with Let’s Go Zero, is excited to introduce The Playground
Engage young people with climate action planning
Taking climate action in school shouldn’t be limited to SLT and Sustainability Leads. Young people are passionate about climate change. They want to learn more, take action and make their voices heard.
That’s why we’ve created The Playground, an educational tool which takes Count Your Carbon out of the school office and into the classroom, so that pupils can engage with their school’s decarbonisation journey too.

An interactive resource within Count Your Carbon
Using real data from your school’s carbon footprint calculation, pupils can tinker and model the carbon impact of different actions across six key areas: fuel, electricity, commuting, water, food, and purchasing. Then, pupils are invited to take part in a vote, the results of which can be used to communicate to school leaders where they think their school should prioritise action.
With fun visuals and educational content throughout, it’s a great way to engage your students with climate action and build their voice into your school’s decarbonisation plan.

Getting started
To access The Playground your school needs to have completed a carbon footprint calculation with Count Your Carbon. Speak to your Sustainability Lead, Eco Lead, or SLT to find out whether this has been completed. If your school hasn't completed a calculation, you'll need to begin there. If your school has completed a calculation and you're not a user on the account, ask the administrator to add you as a user. Then, simply login to Count Your Carbon and head to The Playground section on your user dashboard to begin.

Resources
All the information you and your pupils need to use The Playground is built into the tool, but if you want to feel more prepared, or plan additional related activity - then we've got you covered. We've produced a suite of resources, including a Teacher Delivery Guide and handy Cheat Sheet, to support teachers to deliver The Playground with confidence. Our resources are also a brilliant way to share more about Count Your Carbon and The Playground with colleagues.
